Veneers in Scarborough, Toronto, ON
What makes a smile beautiful? Good tooth color, shape and alignment are a few of the most identifiable qualities of a lovely smile. If you’re looking for a way to improve the appearance of your smile, veneers are a quick, effective, and versatile option. A dental veneer is a thin layer of a tooth-colored material that is bonded to the front surface of your tooth. They can create a natural-looking, beautiful new surface, allowing you to smile confidently.
Veneers can be made of a variety of materials, most commonly porcelain or composite resin materials, and can improve many cosmetic issues such as discoloration, cracks, chips, and broken teeth. They are also used to “reshape” misaligned, uneven or irregularly shaped (teeth with bulges), as well as gaps between teeth.
If your teeth could use improvement in any of these categories, veneers may be the solution in giving you a beautiful, confident smile.

Porcelain veneers are custom-made in a laboratory to fit your unique smile. The high-quality, wafer-thin porcelain has a translucent quality that allows the veneer to look incredibly natural. In addition to being super-strong, the porcelain is also very stain resistant and extremely durable. While it is still possible to damage them if you aren’t careful, veneers can last on average for 8 - 10 years.
Porcelain veneers are very versatile and can mask a wide array of cosmetic concerns. They can be used to improve any of the following characteristics of your teeth:
Color — Teeth can become stained by food and drink, smoking, medication and aging. Veneers are available in numerous shades, from the most natural to the brightest Hollywood white.
Size & Shape — Your teeth can wear down with time, or may not be your preferred size or shape. Veneers can reshape your teeth to enhance your features.
Alignment & Spacing — Veneers can be used to close small gaps between teeth or make slight corrections in alignment while improving tooth color and shape.
Limitations of Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are not appropriate for all situations. If your teeth are significantly misaligned or have large gap, orthodontics (braces) may be a more appropriate solution to correct these problems. If you have lost a lot of tooth structure from decay, trauma or a particularly severe grinding habit, restoring your teeth with porcelain crowns that cover the entire tooth would be the better solution.
Your Porcelain Veneers Procedure
Your porcelain veneers procedure will require 2 visits.
At your first visit, we’ll work with you in selecting the colour and shade of your new veneers. We’ll then do some minor enamel preparation and take some impressions of your teeth. You will be fitted with temporary veneers while your permanent veneers are being fabricated at our dental laboratory, which usually takes approximately 2 weeks.
At your second visit, your new veneers will be fitted properly and then bonded to your teeth. We’ll make any adjustments necessary to ensure your bite is balanced and feels comfortable. Welcome to your new smile!
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers, also known as cosmetic bonding, are one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to improve cosmetic issues such as discoloration. They are also used to “reshape” misaligned, uneven or irregularly shaped (teeth with bulges), as well as minor spacing irregularities.
Composite veneers are sculpted directly on your natural tooth using tooth-colored composite resin, which comes in a variety of tooth shades for truly lifelike results. When bonding is done with a skilled hand and an artistic eye, it may be almost impossible to distinguish the bonded tooth from its neighbors.
Limitations of Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are a cost-effective option, but have some limitations. They are not as strong as porcelain and may not be appropriate in higher-wear situations. Composite veneers will chip and stain more easily than porcelain, and typically won't last as long as their porcelain counterparts. In addition, results from composite veneers are often less shiny and aesthetic than porcelain veneers.
Your Composite Veneers Procedure
Composite veneers can be completed in one visit, as it doesn't require the involvement of a dental lab, and typically requires minimal tooth prep.
A thin layer of composite resin in a well-matched shade is applied on the front surface of the tooth, and hardened with an LED curing light. Once the first layer is cured, another layer is applied and cured. Layers are incrementally applied and built up until the veneer is the perfect thickness. The composite veneer is then shaped and sized to give you a straight and even smile. Once the tooth not only looks great but fits in perfectly with your bite, it is polished to give you a white and bright smile!
Caring For Your Veneers
Veneers require the same conscientious care as your natural teeth. Be sure to brush and floss between all of your teeth every day to reduce the buildup of plaque or collection of debris around the restoration. When you have veneers, it is even more important to maintain your regular cleanings at your dental office.
Certain behaviors can significantly shorten the life of your veneers. Long-term teeth grinding can damage the veneer, which can be prevented by wearing a nightguard during sleep. Biting on hard foods such as nuts, bones, ice or hard candy can compromise the veneer's adhesion, or even chip the veneer.
